Linda's Passion Projects

Cambodian Well Projects

On an awe-inspiring bicycle trip through Cambodia, Linda and Jane met a young man who was passionate about building wells for families in need of water. He introduced them to one of these families and they had to get involved. With the help of their friends, colleagues and complete strangers, they have now built 15 wells.

Did you know that can cost as little as $300 to build a well for a family or a community? We challenge you to build at least one well and help to change the world – one family at a time.

Find a project that inspires you and share it with us. Together, we can make a big difference.

Being There Project

This award-winning guide is an invaluable resource for the friend, family member or co-worker of a person with mental illness, especially at the beginning when the illness is first recognized. Being There looks beyond clinical questions of diagnosis and treatment to discuss the broader issues of personal relationships and life management that make mental illness especially difficult for the ill person and those around them. The quality of life of millions of Canadians would benefit if the contents of this guide became common knowledge. The authors have sold more than 30,000 copies, but their goal is a copy in every household. Perhaps you can help!

Friends for Zambia – The Twitti School

A Canadian charity, Friends for Zambia (FFZ), is raising funds to build a school in a rural community in Zambia. The founders of FFZ taught school 40 years ago in Zambia and have kept in touch with their former colleagues there. One of these Zambian colleagues retired to a farming community near the capital city of Lusaka and, finding there was no school for the local children, started teaching children in her own home. The Twitti School is now serving 200 children in shifts in this home from preschool to grade 7. Since 2006, FFZ has been raising money to construct buildings for the Twitti School so the children will have a permanent school and provide a legacy for the community. To date, two four-classroom buildings, a water well and washrooms have been completed, and the administration/library building has been started. FFZ hopes to raise sufficient funds to complete the construction of the entire school in 2011.
